Logging

Configuration data, information messages, and warning messages are written to the file "edgar.log" in the user home folder. The five most recent log files are retained as "edgar1.log", "edgar2.log", etc. Whenever Edgar is started, the oldest log file ("edgar5.log") is deleted, "edgar4.log" is renamed to "edgar5.log", "edgar3.log" is renamed to "edgar4.log", etc. If the file "edgar.log" in the user home folder is not writable, logging information will be streamed to the console. A dynamically updated copy of the logging data can be viewed by selecting View Log from the Tools menu, then pressing the Log button on the bottom edge of the Edgar window. The level of information recorded to the log files can be controlled from the Logging settings in the Preferences editor.
