Anneth is designed to run on an embedded system without a keyboard or mouse attached, so the user interface is rather limited. It is possible to access the embedded system using VNC Viewer software, and it is also possible to attached a standard keyboard, video monitor, and mouse to the system.
By default, the embedded system at startup will load the Anneth software and run it in full screen standard mode with an open logging window. This window can be manually minimized and/or resized if desired.
At the bottom of the logging window is a simplified version of the Edgar Status panel. The Anneth Status panel is for display only. The actual controls (such as reset scan counter) do not work from within Anneth as they do from within Edgar.
The normal mode of operation is for Anneth to function as a data server, serving instrument data across the network to Edgar running on some other system. In this mode, the Anneth Status panel will be inactive. However, if there are no networked systems, or no systems running Edgar requesting data, the Anneth Status panel will be updated once per scan just as the Edgar Status panel is. Anneth will continue to update the Status panel once per scan until a request is made to serve data to a remote Edgar client. Edgar, when configured in the Ethernet acquisition mode, will automatically send this request to Anneth at startup. Once an Anneth-to-Edgar connection is made, the Anneth Status information is no longer updated. Instead, the data is served over the network for Edgar to process.
To manually enter the standalone Local Capture Mode, right click anywhere in the log window, then click on “Force Local Capture Mode”. While you are in Local Capture Mode, you can use Alt-tab to switch between the Local Capture status window and the Anneth log window.
