Network Setup

Peer-to-Peer

You can setup a dedicated peer-to-peer network between your notebook or desktop and the embedded system. This allows you to establish a network connection without any network routers or switches or other systems. Follow these steps for setup:

  1. Right click on My Network Places
  2. Select Properties
  3. Right click on Local Area Connection
  4. Select Properties
  5. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
  6. Click Properties
  7. Click Use the following IP address
    • For the client system running Edgar use these settings:
      • IP address: 192.168.0.1
      • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
      • Default gateway: 192.168.0.2
    • For the embedded system use these settings:
      • IP address: 192.168.0.2
      • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
      • Default gateway: 192.168.0.1
  8. Click OK
  9. Click OK

Drive Sharing

It is possible to setup the embedded system so that you can access it as a network drive in order to edit files, copy updates, etc. To do this, follow this steps:

  1. Boot up and open the Control Panel (using VNC)
  2. Switch to classic view
  3. Open Administrative Tools
  4. Open Local Security Policy
  5. Navigate to Local Policies, Security Options
  6. Disable the option for “Accounts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console logon only”
  7. Turn sharing on for drive C, using My Computer or Windows Explorer. You may have to create a new share depending on the rest of your network setup.

Once this is done, you can connect remotely to the default Adminstrator account with no password.
